On Sunday 31st October 2021 at 6.30 p.m. St Mary’s hosts a service for the churches across the team remembering those who have died, recalling together our confident hope in Christ Jesus of life eternal. It is time to reflect on loss, give thanks for what has been, and a reminder of our oneness in life and in death. We light candles and bring hope and strength to each other, as inevitably there are some of us feeling stronger than others at particular times.
Our prayers are ever with those whose emotions are raw and from our own weakness we can offer the healing hands of our grief, and the sympathy of those whose loneliness is hard to bear. So it is a time when we both give and receive of ourselves, and draw on the strength and promises of Christ. In hope our thoughts will turn inevitably to what a prayer in the Irish Book of Common Prayer describes as, “the joyful reunion in the heavenly places”. That thought sustains us when we are at our lowest, and gives us the courage to make of this life without the one we love, something beautiful and positive and self-giving. For we know that all things work together for good in those who love one another.
