All Things Bright & Beautiful
All Things Bright and Beautiful, the service designed especially to be easily accessible to people with memory loss or dementia, which takes place on a Tuesday afternoon every week in St Mary’s at 2.30 p.m. has now been running for a month and a half and it is settling into a pattern, with those attending giving thought to the hymns for the next week, and sharing in a cup of tea and some games and craft activities afterwards. May I thank those whose inspiration it has been and all the helpers who make this initiative possible. This is a valuable addition to the cycle of our liturgical services.
We are learning as we go along, and it is good to receive feedback from those who have come, and from clergy and others who have experience in this area, or who know of resources to help. In the nature of things we don’t want to chop and change too much - just the very opposite - but perhaps the time has come to have a look at the order of service that we are using, and see if there are adjustments to be made that will improve it.
I would encourage you to come, if you are available on a Tuesday afternoon, as the coming together of all who want to share in this ministry is, in fact, very encouraging and supportive. I don’t think that any of us are doing anything other than preparing and sharing as we would for any other service. We do believe, also, that the short format and informal nature of the worship may well suit parents and pre-school children too. So come along and see what you think. We would love to hear from you!
