FLAGELLATION AND PAVEMENT’
Jesus is scourged. The Chapel of the Flagellation commemorates the site. Nearby is the Sisters of Zion Convent, built over the pavement where he is mocked and crowned with thorns. The Roman soldiers ‘Game of the King’ is still clearly etched into the granite pavement. The scorpion is the emblem of the 10th Legion, in charge of his crucifixion.
Jesus bears his cross amid blows, cries and mockery to Golgotha, the place of a skull. The Church of the Holy Sepulchre is built over the site. Jesus suffers God's Judgement on the sins of the whole world. His excruciating sacrifice secures God's forgiveness. His indestructible love and mercy are truly awesome. His body is placed in a new tomb, 'Fit for a King'. Joseph rolls a great stone over the entrance.
