Parish Giving Scheme

Parish Giving Scheme to be launched in Swanage on 1st March

The Diocese of Salisbury is encouraging all parishes to join the Parish Giving Scheme.

This new initiative is designed to make giving to the Church easier, more cost-effective and make the Honorary Treasurer’s job a little more straight-forward.

Many people give to their Parish Church by standing order now, whilst the envelope schemes are still popular, however, both forms of giving have the major drawback of requiring the parish to process the reclaiming of tax under gift aid, and, in the case of envelopes, the handling of significant amounts of cash and still some cheques.

The Parish Giving Scheme simplifies everything by moving us on to direct debits. We sign up for a particular amount as a monthly, quarterly or annual gift to the Church and our donations are centrally administered and the gift aid claims are made for us. The PCC account is credited within a few days and much of the ‘hidden’ work of financial management of donations is significantly reduced.

Swanage PCC voted unanimously to join the scheme at its January meeting.  The Team Rector and Hon. Treasurer are to outline the programme in more detail and answer questions at meetings to be held in St Mary’s Church at 3.00 p.m. and 7.00 p.m. on Thursday 1st March.  The presentation at each meeting is to be the same.  It should be emphasised that whilst we are being encouraged to change our method of giving for the ease of those who process the gifts, the old ways of giving will continue to be available for those who wish to make their gifts in the traditional manner.
