‘Only the Brave’ was the theme of this year’s Spring Harvest and 106 determined disciples (mostly from All Saints) made their way to Minehead to find out what it was all about. Feeling thoroughly British, most of us braved the cold and the drizzle to meet for a picnic on the first day but we couldn’t sit on the grass so we grabbed tables and chairs from the chalets and took over the car park!
James 1 v22 was almost certainly the defining verse of the week: Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. In the three morning sessions of bible study, Simon Ponsonby reminded us that the book of James is a letter of provocation – ‘JUST DO IT’– and other speakers expanded on this theme throughout the week. Worship, as usual, was vibrant and uplifting.
Tim and Sally Silk, who organised the trip, were honoured to be called up to the main stage on Day 4 to receive the unsung heroes group organisers’ award for 2018. Here are a few comments from some of those who came along:
From the Webb Family: " We want to say an enormous thank you for once again organising a brilliant Spring Harvest trip. We have loved it! I know that Sarah & Dave and their girls, and Giles and his children have also had a brilliant time. We do appreciate all the effort you have gone to over many months to make the whole thing happen. Thank you again so much, Love Na’, Nick, Ronan and Micah x"
"Thank you for letting us join All Saints this Spring Harvest Week. We have really benefited from the teaching and spending time with Lucy, Berno, Heidi, Lara" - Cat, Andy & Adeline.
"It is a wonderful blessing to spend concentrated time with other Christians and a great encouragement. We hope to spend more time looking at James and learning from his letter. Many thanks again." Helen & Glen Jones
"There are times when I think I have changed and will never feel the same. It happens after a talk in Church, or a discussion in Andrea and Ted's group. This time it was during Spring Harvest. This is what I now know... I am a child of God. I have a new confidence. It was also wonderful to feel closer to the church family." Debbie Waitt xx
We were sent on our way on the final morning with a reminder that we need to be excited about the gospel. We need to be prepared to leave our church buildings and reach into the lives of others with our own lives. ONLY THE BRAVE of course!
Jesus, Gavin Calver reminded us, came from the highest place to the lowest place to take the lowest to the highest.
With many thanks to all who have contributed to this memory of Spring Harvest 2018!
