St Mary's special preacher on climate crisis - Sunday 22nd September

St Mary's 10.30 a.m. service on Sunday 22nd September will include a sermon by Reverend Alex Mabbs, who is to conduct a workshop on environmental issues on Saturday 21st September in All Saints' Church (please see separate news item on this website). A focus on the environment is being taken up by churches and community groups, including the town council, during what has now been declared by the Church this "Creation Time" season - through September to the beginning of October.

About the speaker: Alex Mabbs is a minister in the United Reformed Church, based at the Brighthelm Church and Community Centre in Brighton, Sussex. Environmental action is a core element of Brighthelm’s mission. They were the first local church in the UK to divest from fossil fuels, back in 2014. Their latest project, Earth Church, seeks to bring together environmental action and the teachings and example of Jesus Christ. Until this summer, Alex was a trustee of Operation Noah, with a particular focus on the Bright Now divestment campaign.
