This summer St Mary’s will be hosting a short series of organ recitals on our newly restored organ by Andrew Cooper and Co. Ltd.
The series will open on Thursday 28th June with a recital by Dr Gordon Stewart who is one of England’s finest concert organists. Gordon has been giving weekly recitals at Huddersfield Town Hall for the past 28 years, as well as concerts all over the world. He is in great demand as a teacher, and teaches most of the organ scholars at Oxford and Cambridge. His famous sense of humour and engaging personality make for a wonderful evening.
David Poulter has been a cathedral organist for much of his life, and for the past 10 years has been Director of Music at Liverpool Anglican Cathedral where he presided over the largest cathedral organ in the country! David now works as a freelance musician and gives recitals across the globe.
Robert Quinney is one of England’s finest and celebrated musicians, who is now Director of Music at New College, Oxford, where he directs the famous choir of boys and men. Robert was Director of Music at Peterborough Cathedral before he went to Oxford, and, prior to that, he was Sub Organist at Westminster Abbey where he played for many Royal occasions – including the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.
Simon Lole, Director of Music at St Mary's, will then round the series off at the start of August.
We hope that you will be able to attend some of these concerts. Do please tell your friends too!
