The annual Civic Service for Swanage has been moved this year from July to September. In the presence of the Mayor and other councillors of the Town Council of Swanage and visiting dignitaries from other towns in Dorset, we celebrate the life of this seaside place, that is appreciated and loved by both residents and visitors alike. In a month during which there has been (and continues to be) thought and discussion in schools, churches and community groups - as well as in the town hall - concerning the impact that contemporary lifestyle has on the environment, the Mayor has requested that the Civic Service this year be themed around the climate crisis and our response. Schools in Swanage are giving some input at one point in the service in order to highlight the concerns of children and young people.
The service is to be held in St Mary's Church at 3.00 p.m. on Sunday 15th September. Tea and cake will be served outside after the service to the music of the town band.
