The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity runs from 18th to 25th January each year - In Swanage, we mark it from Monday to Friday with an ecumenical meeting for thought and prayer on a particular theme, and follow it with a united Church service on Sunday morning.
This year we begin our week of reflection and prayer together on Monday 21st January and we end on Friday 25th January. There are two related themes this year: Justice and Our Community. The material on Justice comes from the Indonesian Church and will be used widely in ecumenical gatherings throughout Britain and Ireland.
The speaker at our United Service on Sunday 27th January at 10.30 a.m. in the United Reformed Church, Swanage, will be Debra Green, founder of the charity Redeeming Our Communities. She is a well-known speaker on the subject of Christian involvement in community projects. We look forward to hearing her on that day and at an event on Saturday 26th January, details of which are yet to be finalised.
The leaders of each day of prayer during the week (21st to 25th January) will be representatives of different projects involving all the Churches in our community, several sponsored by individuals from those Churches, including Besom, the Wave and the Foodbank. We will be meeting at the Roman Catholic Church of The Holy Spirit and St Edward’s between 12 noon and 1pm each day. All are most welcome at these lunchtime meetings. More details later.
